The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday that it is inviting 487 new members to join and if this happens, the total number of members will increase to 10,910, of which 9,934 can vote. This invitation has been given to individuals from 68 countries, of which 46 percent of the new members are women and 41 percent come from underrepresented ethnic or racial groups. The names of Indian celebs are included in this list.
In an interview with ETimes, Oscar Academy Member Ujjwal Nirugudkar said, “Like every year, this year too the list of new Oscar Academy members includes some of the Bollywood stalwarts, including actress Shabana Azmi, director SS Rajamouli, producer Ritesh Sidhwani and many others. Congratulations to everyone for this new honour!”
Talking about the list, the names include actress Shabana Azmi, Ravi Varman in cinematography, Rama Rajamouli and Sheetal Sharma in costume, Reema Das, SS Rajamouli, Anand Kumar Tucker in directors, Nisha Pahuja, Hemal Trivedi in documentary, producer Ritesh Sidhwani, Gitesh Pandya in marketing.
It is worth noting that this year 487 new members have been invited by the Academy. Whereas in 2023, 398 people were invited. At the same time, the maximum number of 928 people were invited in 2018.
