Born on 3 July 1984 in Amritsar, Punjab, Bharti Singh’s parents were from Punjab. Bharti’s father’s ancestors were from Nepal. Bharti is the youngest and has two elder siblings, a brother and a sister. Bharti’s family was poor and when her mother was pregnant, the circumstances were such that she even thought of getting an abortion but God had something else in store for Bharti. Despite all the difficulties, her mother decided to give birth to her and give her lots of love. Bharti Singh is a graduate from BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar. Not only this, she is also a gold medalist in archery and pistol shooting.

At the age of 22, Bharti’s mother had to take responsibility and raised her three children alone. In an interview to Pinkvilla, Bharti explained why her mother never thought of remarriage and said: “My mother got married at the age of 15 and by the time she was 22, she had three children. My father passed away long ago and my mother was left alone with us. Many people suggested my mother to remarry and she got marriage proposals from men who already had 2 children. But she refused to marry and said that her family would fall apart.”

After her father’s death, Bharti’s mother did all kinds of jobs. She worked in factories, cleaned toilets, worked from house to house and faced all kinds of hardships. In an interview with Neena Gupta for Brut India, Bharti revealed that her mother would feed her the leftover food from the houses where she worked. Talking about the same, she said, “Mummy used to work in other people’s houses. I used to sit. I used to clean the toilets. Then if there was any leftover vegetable, they would say take it away. Their stale vegetable would become fresh for us. Our whole day would be made.”

Bharti, who faced difficulties at home, had to struggle in her professional life as well. Bharti looked for opportunities for herself by going to many auditions and NCC camps. During an audition, comedian Sudesh Lahiri recognized her talent and cast her in a play. Bharti Singh’s luck changed when Kapil Sharma noticed her and asked her to audition for The Great India Laughter Challenge show. She was the second runner-up on this show.
