Keshav Kumar Pathak (KK Pathak) is a tough officer who has brought about many changes in the education system of Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had entrusted him with the responsibility of Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department. Pathak keeps a close watch on the attendance of students and teachers and is working to improve the school infrastructure. He holds several important degrees and passed the UPSC in 1990.

Originally from Uttar Pradesh, KK Pathak’s first posting was in Katihar. He went to Delhi on central deputation in 2010 but returned to Bihar in 2015 at the request of Nitish Kumar. He was given a major responsibility in the liquor ban campaign in 2016 and in 2021 he was made the Additional Chief Secretary of the Excise and Prohibition Department. Recently KK Pathak is in the news for not having summer vacation in the state. He was born on 15 January 1968. He was smart in studies from the beginning. KK Pathak obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Economics after passing 10th and 12th. He passed graduation with first class. After this, he also did M.Phil in the same subject. According to reports, he had secured a rank in the top 40 in the UPSC examination.  

How was the journey?

Got his first posting in Katihar in 1990. Became DM in 1996. Also became BIADA MD, Housing Board CMD in 2005. Went to Delhi on central deputation in 2010. Returned to Bihar in 2015 and played a major role in the Excise Department. In 2021, became Additional Chief Secretary of Excise and Prohibition Department. Then in the year 2023, he was made Additional Chief Secretary of Education Department.

Why is he in the news?

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had ordered to keep schools closed till June 8, but KK Pathak had amended this order and put teachers on duty. Reports suggest that CM Nitish Kumar is angry with this. KK Pathak has applied for EL leave.
