JNU: Now you will not have to pass NTA entrance exam for PhD, admission will be given on the basis of this score.

JNU PhD Admission On Basis Of NET Score: Now, to get admission in JNU’s PhD program, students will not have to pass a separate entrance examination conducted by NTA. Instead, the university will give admission to the candidates on the basis of NET score. Jawaharlal Nehru University has decided that the criteria for PhD admission will be changed. Instead of NTA’s entrance exam, only the score of National Eligibility Test will be recognized.

The matter will be decided by only one entrance exam

In the notice issued in this regard, the university has said that in order to provide this facility to the students under which they can get admission in PhD course through a single national level entrance exam, the rules are being changed. These rules are based on the recommendations of NEP 2020 and it has been made clear in this public notice that candidates will get admission in PhD only on the basis of UGC NET and CSIR NET examination conducted by NTA.

The rule will be applicable from the new session

The new rule will be followed from the academic session 2024-25. Under this, NTA will no longer have to conduct a separate entrance examination for the PhD program of JNU. Apart from this, there are some rules which have to be kept in mind. Their list is as follows.

What are the admission criteria

  • Under Category One, JRF qualified candidates will come, in Category Two, candidates with Assistant Professorship but not JRF will come. In the third category, candidates who have neither JRF nor Assistant Professorship but have passed NET score for PhD will come.
  • The score of CSIR NET and UGC NET examination conducted by NTA will remain valid for one year for admission to PhD course. If any candidate wants to do PhD in the subjects for which NET exam is not conducted, then an entrance exam will be conducted for him.
  • The same old rules will be applicable for JRF where 100 percent weightage will be given to Viva-Voice. Will be given.
