Famous composer Ilaiyaraaja’s daughter Bhavatarini passes away, she was battling liver cancer, said goodbye at the age of 47

Playback singer Bhavatarini, daughter of music director Ilaiyaraaja, died of cancer on January 25. According to reports, she had gone to Sri Lanka for treatment of liver cancer. However, he died in Sri Lanka at around 5 pm. His mortal remains will be brought to Chennai tomorrow on 26th January. His last rites will take place there. Bhavtarini was 47 years old. She is the daughter of Ilaiyaraaja and sister of Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. She won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the Tamil song ‘Mayil Pola Ponnu Onnu’ from ‘Bharti’.

Ilaiyaraaja’s daughter Bhavatarini was a playback singer and music composer. He was undergoing treatment for liver cancer for the last six months. Recently he was taken to Sri Lanka for further treatment where he died in a private hospital. Not much information about his funeral has been shared yet.

Bhavatarini made her debut as a singer with ‘Raasaiya’. Since then he has sung for his father Ilaiyaraaja and brothers Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. He also sang songs for composers Deva and Sirpi. In 2002, she became the music composer for ‘Mitra, My Friend’ directed by Revathi. After this he gave music for ‘Phir Milenge’ and some films. His last music album was for the Malayalam film ‘Mayanadhi’. He sang in Tamil films like Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, Bharathi, Azhagi, Friends, Paa, Mankatha and Anegan.
