Famous Malayalam music director J Joy passes away, breathed his last at the age of 77

Famous Malayalam music director KJ Joy passed away at his home in Chennai on Monday. He was 77 years old. Jay Joy was famous as the first ‘technical musician’ in the Malayalam film music industry in the 1970s, using instruments such as keyboards. Sources said that he was bedridden for some time. Jay Joy’s last rites will be held in Chennai on Wednesday. FEFKA Directors Union and Malayalam playback singer-cum-composer MG Sreekumar condoled his demise on social media.

He wrote on his social media account, ‘My condolences are with him. May his soul rest in peace. Born in 1946 in Nellikunnu in Thrissur district of Kerala, Joy composed music for more than two hundred films during his decades-long career in the film industry. J Joy made his debut in Malayalam cinema in 1975 and since then he has been the creator of many songs that have enthralled people. It was Joy’s experiments that led to drastic changes in the Malayalam film music landscape and he also gained attention for his music direction in films starring Jayan.

J Joy also composed many eternal youth songs, including the huge hit ‘En Swaram Poovittam Gaaname’, which people remember even today. He gave music in more than two hundred films. Which includes Ivan Ende Priyaputran, Chandanchola, Aradhana, Snehayamuna, Mukkuvane Snehicha Bhootam, Lisa Madalasa, Sayujyam, Itha Oru Theeram, Anupallavi, Sarpam, Sakthi, Hridayam Padunnu, Chandrahasam, Manusha Mrigam and Karimpucha. He also worked as an assistant in more than 500 films for different music directors.
