It is noteworthy that the Heeramandi web-series is based on the cultural reality of ‘Heeramandi’, a glittering district of prostitutes and their patrons. Set against the tumultuous backdrop of the Indian freedom struggle of the 1940s, ‘Hiramandi’ tells the story of love, betrayal, inheritance and politics in the ‘kothas’. It is being said that a set of 1,60,000 square feet was set up for this entire series.
