India votes 2024: ‘The rich get richer, the poor get poorer’

It has been dubbed ‘Modinomics’ and, at first glance, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic policy appears to be paying dividends. India’s GDP is rising and the country is on track to boast the world’s third-largest economy by 2027. However, as India’s super-rich see their wealth sharply rise, critics say the country’s poorest are being left behind. A recent report suggests there is more inequality in the country today than there was under the colonial British Raj period.
