There has been a decline in the unemployment rate among people aged 15 years and above in urban areas of the country. The rate stood at 6.7% in the January-March quarter of 2024, compared to 6.8% in the same period a year ago. The percentage of unemployed people in the total labor force of the country is called unemployment rate. These figures have been released by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO). The unemployment rate in the March quarter last year was 6.8%. After this, it was 6.6% in April-June and July-September quarters. It increased to 6.5% in October-December 2023. At the same time, according to the 22nd Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS), the unemployment rate for people aged 15 years and above in urban areas was 6.7% in the quarter from January to March this year. Unemployment rate among women was 8.5%, among men was 6.1%. According to the data, the unemployment rate among women aged 15 years and above in urban areas was 8.5%, which was 9.2% in the January-March quarter of last year. It was 9.1% in April-June 2023, 8.6% in July-September 2023 and October-December 2023. The unemployment rate among men in urban areas increased to 6.1% in the January-March quarter of 2024. This rate was 6% during this period last year. It was 5.9% in April-June 2023, 6% in July-September 2023 and 5.8% in October-December 2023. What is Labor Force? Labor force is called that part of the population who work hard for the production of goods and services and earn money in return. This includes both employed people and unemployed. NSSO had launched PLFS in April 2027.
