Government advisory for mobile users: Telecom department said – calls threatening to block phone number are ‘fraud’, report it

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on Friday issued an advisory for all mobile users regarding calls threatening to block mobile numbers. The government has said that it (DoT) does not authorize any person to make such calls. In this advisory issued by the Telecom Department, the government has said that many people are being threatened by calls coming in the name of DoT by telling them that illegal activity has taken place on their number. Your mobile number will be blocked. Even for WhatsApp calls, the advisory asks for personal information from the caller to prevent the mobile number from being blocked. As soon as it is given, people become victims of fraud. Apart from this, the government has also issued advisory for WhatsApp calls coming from foreign numbers (like +92). If you have become a victim of any such fraud then call the government helpline number 1930 or lodge a complaint on www.cybercryme.gov.in. Ways to avoid cyber fraud or crime: You can complain on the government’s Chakshu portal. The government has also launched the Chakshu portal to avoid cyber fraud. The government is also working on creating an app for Chakshu. If you receive any call, SMS or WhatsApp message with fraudulent intentions, you can lodge a report on the portal. In the complaint, the time, date of receiving the call or SMS and all the information related to it has to be given. There is also a screenshot of such call or message as a record.
